Anodyne Therapy® Model 480 PRO™
The Anodyne Therapy® Model 480 PRO™ is a professional, noninvasive infrared light therapy system designed for use by healthcare providers in clinical settings. It delivers Monochromatic Infrared Energy (MIRE™) at 890 nm through flexible therapy pads containing infrared light-emitting diodes.
The Model 480 PRO™ is FDA-cleared for use with the following indicated purposes:
- Temporarily increasing local circulation
- Temporarily reducing pain
- Temporarily reducing stiffness
- Temporarily reducing muscle spasm
The system allows clinicians to adjust energy output, treat multiple areas at once, and integrate therapy into existing clinical workflows.
How the Model 480 PRO™ Works
The Model 480 PRO™ delivers 890 nm monochromatic infrared energy via therapy pads placed on the skin. During treatment, patients typically experience a gentle therapeutic warmth in the treated area.
The Energy Control Dials on the control unit allow the clinician to set the energy level for each output channel. Light energy is delivered during the treatment time selected by the clinician, within the guidelines provided in the instructions for use.
Designed for Professional Use
The Model 480 PRO™ is engineered for clinics, therapy centers, and healthcare practices that want a flexible infrared light therapy system they can reliably integrate into patient care.
Key clinical features include:
- Adjustable energy settings to match patient skin integrity and sensitivity
- Eight separate therapy pads, each containing 60 infrared diodes
- Ability to treat multiple locations on one patient (for example, foot and calf, elbow and hand)
- Option to treat two patients at the same time when clinically appropriate
- Hands-free application using attachment straps and application systems
- Lightweight, portable control unit with carrying case
Indications and Intended Use

Example Clinical Applications (By Indication Only)
The Model 480 PRO™ is designed for professional use where temporary:
- Increase in local circulation is desired
- Reduction of pain, stiffness, or muscle spasm is appropriate
Therapy pads may be placed on:
- Feet and lower legs (using “T” configuration under the foot and pads on each side of the calf)
- Hands and forearms
- Soft tissue regions such as shoulders, neck, back, or joints
- Areas proximal to open wounds (with a clear plastic barrier and without placing pads directly over dressings)
All use must follow the treatment time limits, energy settings, and pad placement guidance provided in the instructions for use.
Safety Information
The Model 480 PRO™ emits heat and may cause burns if used incorrectly. To reduce risk:
- Never treat a given area for more than 45 minutes
- Use lower energy settings for compromised skin integrity or reduced sensation
- Avoid excessive pressure on therapy pads
- Use caution over bony areas (ankles, knees, elbows, shins, tops of feet and hands)
- Check the skin approximately every 10 minutes during treatment
- Do not use topical heating agents, pain patches, or residual heating products under the pads
- Do not use in or near water, or while the device or patient is wet
If the patient reports that the treatment feels too hot, or if excessive redness or discomfort occurs, discontinue treatment and follow the troubleshooting and reporting guidance.
Contraindications
Do not use Anodyne Therapy®:
- Directly over or near the womb during pregnancy
- Directly over an active cancer
The effects of treatment in these situations are unknown.
Infection Control
When treating multiple patients or an area with an open wound or lesion:
- Always use a clear plastic barrier between the therapy pads and the skin
- Replace the barrier between patients and discard after each use
- Clean therapy pads and the control unit with an appropriate hospital-grade disinfectant according to facility protocol (without soaking or immersing components)
Care and Maintenance
To help maintain longevity and performance:
- Do not drop the control unit or therapy pads
- Do not pull therapy pads or cords from the unit by the cables
- Do not wrap cords tightly around pads or the control unit
- Do not saturate, soak, or autoclave any components
- Hand wash attachment straps with mild detergent and air dry
